New opportunities
« on: July 08, 2015, 01:17:11 PM »
Over the last few months many of my Facebook friends here in SE Pa have posted about large brown dogs killing chickens and goats. One of the townships has put on their page how to minimize the threat or nuisance. So today I drove around one of the areas checking out a state park that is open to hunting. They say there is over 1000 acres of huntable land. But as I drove around all is aw was safety zone after safe zone sign. There are a few open fields with woods. Ill hit those in the next few days.

On my way home I had to cut thru a small section of the park. I saw a gentleman out working on his lawn and noticed some large fields out back. I stopped and asked if he allowed hunting. He stated he only allowed close friends to hunt. I asked if he had heard of the increased numbers of coyote sightings in the area. He said no but he has seen them in his fields. He asked some questions and I answered the best I could. I gave him my card and hope to hear from him soon.

Awesome that's how to do it.... I'm going to do a little crossbow hunting in Va this year... Total cost for 6 deer, 3 turkey, and 1 bear is $228.00 for the out of state license.  The small game tag allows you to hunt predators... That a part of the $228.00 Something like $108.00 but it entitles you to 12 bobcat to. plus fox, plus coyotes, plus coon.. You can hunt at night, use lights, and use AR's.

I will be hunting in Pa this year but will only hunt in Va  for  1  week.. Kind of like a hunting vacation for me.. However If I see it so good I will probably sneak away for a day or two of hunting be it deer, beer, turkey, predators...  By the way get this... During archery season... You hunt deer, bear, and you can take 2 turkey all on the same day of the archery season...

However predators hunters ... Don't forget about sneaking away and hunting in another state... Life is to short.. For me the Va borders is only 100 miles away from where I live... The hunting grounds that I hunt on are 183 miles away... Now this is a private place...get this...2000 acres... Now close by is the George Washington National Forest... and of course many other Federal and state parks.. You really don't need to have private land to hunt on...

People sometime don't even know the benefits of hunting over the borders...many of you have state borders not more than 100 miles from your home.. .I knew guys in Basspro that not only hunted Pa they hunted WV, or Maryland... I'm truly excited about Va.. That's for sure..

I just got back  from Va...They changed the license for black bear.. The out of state license for big game was  $82.00 and it consisted on 3 antlerless and 3 buck, one bear, and 3 turkey... Now they want residents to pay $31 for a bear tag and out of state $151.00 for a black bear tag.  So the $82 big game tag only allows you to hunt 6 deer and 3 turkeys... That's still a good deal.. However I guess they want to make some bread on all the black bear hunters... especially the ones from Pa...  Their small game license still allows you to hunt all of their small game plus 12 bobcats, unlimited fox, coyotes, and coon.  That still cost $111.00. Hey that's not bad if you can take  12 cats hunting. So for about $228.00 I'm still going to hunt deer and turkey with a crossbow this year... Hoping to get back down there and do some predator hunts ...Figure the place I hunt is only  191 miles from my door... Va border is only  108 miles away just by going down INT 81.  I guess I won't be shooting a bear if it comes along and I'm hunting deer.. Sadly my daughter and son were riding along the bottom of George Washington National force on horse back and saw a black bear on Saturday morning  100 yards away... they said it was a big one!!!!

Dang maybe you want me to skin all your coyotes for you too..  Set your priorities...You can buy ATV to ride down the logging trails or you can invest in properties that allow you to hunt on 2000 acres of land...Should you buy into something like RCI.. Make sure your getting your monies worth.. People buy into a resort that has Jack Sheeeeet for you to do but lay your head on a pillow...Me... I purchased into one not so much for vacations but for what I can do on this particular track... Figure... 2000 acres... I don't have to go on work details to maintain this land... I do pay a small maint fee but people that own a cabin have to pay taxes too. Any electricity, and heat, and water..Then there are programs that a certain few of us can use at these resorts. So just say if I want I can get a place for $329.00 for  7 days and there are  2000 acres to hunt on.. Then at the bottom of the resort is the Shenandoah River that is the best Smallmouth Bass fishing..On the resort that I can hunt for the 2000 acres...Because of it being my resort I can get a room in their hotel for $75.00.  Now the general public they have to pay $100.00 for that same hotel room...Grant you I will probably never make money on buying to this resort but wow the bennies I have on this particular resort is what I was really up to...Where could I get 2000 acres of hunting and fishing land in Pa and then have to maintain the leanto or trailer, or cabin too..
