Most popular calibre for fox
« on: October 26, 2014, 04:20:21 PM »
I know everyone has their own opinions as to what the "Best" calibre is to use when killing fox.

I was just curious to see what the most common calibre is .....if there is such a thing.

I like the 17 hornet, 20 gr VMax by Hornady.  Its super fast, flat shooting, and have killed fox out to 200= + yards.  I only take head shots and the gun is a tack driver.  Plus the small bullet doesn't blow up the fur.

Any others like to share their gun of choice??

Does it blow up the fur on a body shot with the exit hole?

I have no complaints about my .223. I hand load 36 grain Barnes Varmint Grenades ands have shot fox at 200 yards or so. Drops them dead in their tracks aiming center mass very rarely ever have an exit. Liquifies their vitals. I dropped a coyote using the same load at 100 yards.

For fun I'll shoot a heaver bullet for groundhogs in the summer, i even shot a big doe last rifle season shooting a 90 grain.

I think it's the best all around gun you can get and perfect for fox.

I don't doubt that the above mentioned guns are great too. To each his own.

Carl,

That was the point I was trying to share by asking the question.  For those new up and coming predator hunters.......There are many good calibres out there, to choose from.  Each one offers their own little "nitche".  Depending upon how you want  to use it, load it, etc.,  there are a lot of choices to consider.
