Lookn4'nakes, I never heard of a dry bite either. Must of just came out from denning?
Jaspr1, my wife can spot a snake before me, also.
When ask, 'what was it? A Gardner Snake?'
She always says, 'it looked like a CopperheadedBlackMombaRattler!!

Dry bites happen more than you think. I have heard of them. I was just teasing you about a dry snake. Snakes have venom 24/7 even just emerging from the den. They don't always push it when they bite out of fear or aggression. They do however always push venom when they strike prey for hunting.

Lookn4Morels, I use snake hook like a extended hand to move weeds and such in my search. Also when walking though brush I keep hook in front of me to knock down cobwebs. Plus carry for the obvious reason. Very lightweight, and wouldn't be without it hunting Morels.

You may want to swap out the hook for the 12 gauge starting this weekend. Unless your better than you look. Lol.
Stuff them morels with a crab and snake meat mixture and you'll be chasing the boss around the yard naked at midnight.
