     I thiink with a good shoot light, there is no real need for an illuminated scope.....Unless you prefer and like it better.

I have a scop with adjustable red dot at the cross hairs. I use it sometimes because i have it. With the lights in the past 2 years I have not needed to use it.

I like the red illuminated dot in the center of the cross hairs. I keep mine on all night. Battery life is outstanding. Sometimes I forget to turn it off and it's still illuminated the next night. My opinion is its a great option.

I never used one,  I don't know anything about them.  My concern would be if you're out hunting and the battery dies,  can you still see the cross  heirs to shoot

Yes Jake looking through them without it liumll it is like looking through a normal crosshairs scope or dot at least leupold is.

Mine works the same as Brushwolf's; turn it on if you want or leave it off. I don't even look for my crosshairs when I see a fox / coyote. All I do is put the small red dot on the critter. Mine is a Mueller scope (which is a  great scope for the price in my opinion). Batteries are cheap too. They are basically a watch battery you can get anywhere. I keep an extra in my bag. I think a 2 pack of batteries cost less than $10.  And as I said earlier, last a very long time too.

i use a Burris 3x9x40 30mm with an Edot.  i like it set low where it glows less than the predators eyes.   mine has a 2 hour run time then shuts off on its own.   i also have a 2x7x44 Bushnell on my 45/70 for deer and bear and i really like that in low light conditions on dark animals.
