eye color?
« on: February 11, 2015, 10:30:07 AM »
Can anyone confirm the color of eyes under red light? I believe I read before that coyote eyes will look like diamonds while the fox I think was orange.

couple of years ago i had a coyote come in and eyes looked like a greenish white color.   i was using a nite light with a red cover.  there was snow on the ground at the time.    i even went back the next day to confirm what i saw and there were coyote tracks right where i saw the eyes.

not sure why they looked like that but they did.

with my old lights i could tell the difference in the glow of the eye, soft red to a deep red.  but with my new lights they all look the same in color.

There are a lot of things that afect color.
The Kelvin rating of the light. The red leds have different wave lenths of red. Plus people might see colors a little different. A red filter can change things also.
But today with these red leds you should not have that problem. I know when i used a white light i could see different color eyes. But never would have trusted pulling the trigger on what I thought it was from the color. I just no with these new powerful red leds they all look red to me.

i am the same way.   i never pull the trigger on just eyes but with my old lights grey fox and coon have an orangy glow to them, red fox had a deep red, and coyotes were in between.   with my new lights they all look the same but i can see bushy tail at 60 yards with the naked eye which is a huge plus.  another thing with these new lights, the predators don't see you or the light..   had grey fox this year that wouldn't stop.  actually had one jumping up trying to grab the call from the tree.

Sometimes I can see a different shape to a coyotes eye. They seam to have an eye that is longer then it is high at night. But maybe it is just me and my eyes.
