About 10 or 12 years ago, I posted a picture on huntingpa.com. I killed 9 Fox (6 Greys, 3 Reds) in one night calling.
A fella replied...Hey Hern don't you trap Fox too?
I replied yep, but these were called and killed by me, one man, one gun, one night.
The jest of his replies that I trapped thesehere Fox.
I had the picture and post removed by the moderator and I only posted a Coyote kill or two since...
I don't have anything to prove. And maybe that's why I don't enter contests.
Before the fur boom hit in the mid 1970's, I was getting the hang of trap'n and call'n. I was young and dumb and showed my fur to anyone. I was proud and thought of myself as something of a top dog because no one in my area was doing as well as me catch'n and kill'n Fox and Coon.
By the late '70's, early '80's everyone started trap'n and call'n. Reds were $65-$75 and Coon were $45-$55. I could not find a place to trap without someone else on the same property. The high prices brought out the worst of many men.
Many guys came to me with questions , what lure?, where to trap? how to trap? how to call? and so on. I got bit on the backside in those years, so I learn to keep my mouth shut on what I caught and where i got 'em.
I wouldn't go on about the stories of the bad past, but learn some lessons.
To this day, am still happy to answer questions about how-to, but shy away from how many and where.
