Urinating in the woods
« on: October 13, 2010, 02:43:03 PM »
There is a interesting topic on HuntingPa.com about peeing in a bottle while hunting, and whether or not human urine spooks deer.  The common denominator by the majority of responses says "NO it doesnt spook deer and quite the contrary"  What about spooking predators?

Last weekend when I showed up to hunt at a spot, I realized I had to take a severe dump.  I ended up driving a mile up the road to dump in the woods.

Our of curiosity, I had set my trail camera up over a spot I had urinated. Two days later I had about 20 pictures of a red fox digging around in that area. I doubt predators would relate the odor with humans and it is not something they would normally smell at the same time. I would think it may actually get their attention and make them want to investigate. When the whole misting phenomenon came about, the theory was to confuse the predators nose. This would probably do just that. Be sure to use camo biodegradable toilet paper  ;D

While in the deer woods I don't leave my stand from 5:30 AM  to the end of closing time...Urination doesn't seem to scare deer away IMO.  I do spray the area with red fox urine maybe that neutralize it?????????????

I use to use cover scent for predator hunting.  Used skunk, red fox or coon urine and then I figure if you know how to set up you don't need it..They know your there already if they get on the down wind side of you no matter what scent you have on you..  I do still use red fox urine for deer hunting .....However IMO when I have used skunk durng deer season I never see any deer so I stopped using skunk all together.
