Interesting fact about PGC and Hunters Ed.
« on: August 17, 2010, 04:21:03 PM »
I am in no way promoting illegal activities with this story!!!!
So, you know all the BS we have to go though when we renew our license right? Apparently it's just that, BS!
I took my Hunter safely course in 90 or 91 under my original name.
A couple years after (maybe 2 years) I had it legally changed to what it is now. For 17 years I have bought a license under Ian M. Captain and never raised a red flag. I am going on a bowhunt in Missouri this Sept. and they require the card says I have completed a Hunters safety course. So, I called and they had no record of me in the system under Ian M. Captain but they did have my old name.
The point of this is. If I (like everyone else) have to go though the walmart invasion of privacy get up , purchase of a license, applying for doe tags, bobcat, being in the pals system through internet and not even being in the system then how many hunters are out there hunting illegally? and why is the PGC making us go through this if they have no intentions of checking up on all this stuff. Any drug addict working at these places has all of our important information to steal out identity and the PGC doesn't use it anyhow.
I called them and straightend everything out and they are sending me a new card for $10.

All you need is a drivers liscens to buy your liscens now, which is down right scary. I've heard stories of people that never took their hunter safety course, and just went to the walmart and bought a liscens...I think because thats just the way they thought it worked. Or they said eh screw that, and just went and tried to buy one. How do they allow that? Angers me.

My brother in-law is one of those guys. He just turned 40, and just started hunting about 2 years ago. All he did was show his drivers license to an issueing agent, and he became an instant know it all hunter >:(. He didn't know the difference between a rifle, and a shotgun. This guy has no business being in the woods, and I have told him so. The worst part is he has an 8 year old son that is going to learn from him. I have offered to take him (my nephew) shooting, but my B.i.law says he will teach him. Oh ya' this guy also voted for Obama >:(

Sorry for the rant, but this just proves what kind of people are out in the woods with us while we hunt.

Be safe everyone

I agree, spend enough time in the woods and you will see it all. I recall the day I was bow hunting the later part of early season, I was up in my treestand wearing a blaze orange vest and hat, and two yoots started shooting at a squirrel in my tree. Branches were raining down on me. I couldn't get down out of my tree fast enough to get to them. Once they realized I was there they ran off. Can't be too safe out there.

As we all know when you go to your local range to shoot.  Your going to see that not all men are created equal....Dang I have wet myself quite a few times now when people start to shoot at the range..

Hunter Safety cards... Both my daughter and Son took the hunter safety course when they were 12.  My son took it twice and didn't have too.. It just worked out that he was attending the PGC camp in Mountaintop and they made sure all kids took the course. Hence he has two cards and of course my daughter has one.. I even have two...I took it with my daughter and then I took it with my son...  However I put those cards in a safe place...My daughter recently told me she might start to hunt once her boy becomes responsible....So...I'm glad I put it up..She might need it to prove she took the hunter safety...

When my daughter is ready to hunt I will take the coarse again with her. That is if she keeps up the interest she has now....fingers crossed :)

Melsdad, I have a daughter named Melodie and all of her friends used to call me Mels dad. Try to keep your daughter as close to you as you can and for as long as you can. They seem to grow up over night and sometimes move away. My Melodie now lives in Texas with her husband. My girls are now 24 and 28. The 24 year old, Dani, still lives with us and is going to nursing school. She is in love with a nice young guy but I think there will be a wedding on the horizon. Then it's just my wife and I. Like it was 30 years ago. Still seems like 30 minutes ago.

My daughters name is Melanie. She is 6. I try to do as much as I can with her, because yes, time does fly buy, and she will be all grown up before I know it.
