I had used camo tape years before but it started to peel and fade. To my delight only slight surface rust where the tape pulled away.

I removed the tape and degreased the gun using Simply Green. The stock was gooey from the tape and the stain comming off so I had to use paint thinner. Used 220 paper to prep all metal and wood, this also removed any rust. Took tape and taped over the checkering in stock, just to see how it would come out

The pictures are not working. Have you heard of or considered using Norrell's Moly Resin. It is a very durable finish. I finished my 870 Wingmaster and Makarov pistol. The moly is self lubricating as well.
