looking for a skinning knife

with the projected price of fur this year, i am thinking it will be a good year to learn how to skin.  can anyone recommend a good skinning knife.   i do not mind paying for a good knife that holds an edge and sharpens up good.

here is the knife that i use for skinning...its very handy and holds an edge quite well.


if you look in his gallery he has another mini skinner available( i believe, if not he can make one to your specs), 14 knives down. looks similar to mine and has a pic of a handcall next to it. price was awesome. nice knife.

If you can make it to almost any trapping expo / show this fall a lot of times you can pick up a good used knife for a few bucks from a dealer. If not a used one a new one. Or I use to just use a good pocket knife for skinning.

this will be my first time a Marysville this Saturday, will there be knife guys there?

i use the new quick change utility knives.
seem to work fine,and no messing around takes 10 seconds for a new sharpe edege.

i make a couple ropes with hangman knots on,i can lace them through some limbs and skin a coon in a deep hollow in about 5 minutes most.

I would say there will be someone there that handles skinning knifes. If you don't see any on any of the tables just ask one of the trapping supply guys there. I know Maces mostly has some used ones .

I think there should be some knives there. But you never know. Hope for a lot of venders selling and your odds of finding a good knife goes up.

There is sure going to plenty of them at Marysville thats for sure....What you need is a Trapper....Buck makes a good one.. So does Case.. All knife makers make ther Trapper models... Look for one on the tables at Marysville.  A man can't have enough Trapper blades....

I have that some one, bought it at lowes awhile back, it came with a bunch of extra blades, great value.

best skinnin knife ive ever used,
goesaround the gums without cutting up threw,and works good around tail areas,etc.

my others sit in a box.and get used little.

i got a flouresent orange rubber handle one also,dont remember the make though but works just as well

i will give it a try, like i said, with the price of fur if i screw it up oh well, i will get better on the next one.

Buying a skin'n knife is like buying boots or raingear.
It's a personal  thing.
I've been in many fellow fur shed and seem we all have are favorite knives.
Scott, look me up a Marysville and I will look over some knives with you. You don't have to spend alot of money for a skin'n knife. You may all ready own a good knife.
And you will need a steel and shapener.
