District 6 Clarion River Small Mouth conoe run
« on: June 23, 2009, 02:24:15 PM »
District 6 Clarion River Small Mouth canoe run will be held August 15th 2009. All PPHA members are welcome to participate. This will be a 10 mile canoe float for the best Small Mouth fishing in Western Pa. The Clarion River runs threw beautiful Cooks Forrest State Park. The Brookville Cooks Forrest area has several Campgrounds, Rental Cabins and Hotels available should you decide to stay overnight. The cost of a rental canoe is approximatly $25.00 split two ways. Each canoe will have two members or your guest. Family members are welcome to participate or to just come along for the ride. I suggest wearing shorts or a bathing suit and don't forget your sunscreen. Hint, Soft craw is a killer in the Clarion. The exact location and time will be announced shortly. Please respond to me via PM or respond on this thread no later that two weeks prior to the fishing trip so I can reserve enough canoes. This will be a lot of fun for the entire family. See you there!

That's not a problem. They can meet at the canoe livery with the rest of us in the morning and follow the van taking us to the drop in spot.

LL, check with the livery and see if he'll haul it upstream for you.

Not that it matters, but isn't this trip being held in D5?

You are correct TJ, it is in d5. I think it's centrally located so other districts can attend rather than having it in the deep southwest corner where the other good fishing river is. I would like to see as many guys come as possible. It will be a good time and maybe some of the members that don't know each other can be introduced and maybe share the same canoe. That will help build good will between the members. Besides, there's a lot of guys that would like to get to know other members so they have some new guys to hunt with and learn the sport with. This fishing trip is open to any member that would like to attend.

I just spoke with the Clarion River Canoe Rental Co.They have plenty of canoes. I think we should all meet in Brookville at Sheetz on Rte. 36 just off the Brookville I80 exit. The canoe rental is about 20 to 30 minutes away. From Brookville take Rte 36 North threw Siegle. Go another mile or so and turn right on Rte 899. Follow Rte 899 to the river and the canoe livery is on the left. The road stops at the river so you can't pass it up. At the corner of Rte 36 and Rte 899 there is an Indian Trading Post. Turn there. If we meet somewhere between 8 and 8:30 am we will be in good shape. We will take the 10 mile drift so bring food and drink for the day. There are several places along the way to get out and eat or stretch. Each canoe will cost $40.00 for the 10 mile run. Two People per canoe is only $20.00 per person. Not a bad price fr the entire day. Women and children are very welcome. It's a beautiful place to spend the day. Google "Cooks Forest" if you want info on camping or lodging. There are several good places to stay.
