Packs of Coyotes!
« on: January 21, 2015, 05:59:32 PM »
Went out last night and played a yipping coyote pack. We were at a high field near a mountain. We called and heard a pack howling back. We set up and then heard the coyotes moving down the mountain. We heard doves flying as they were moving down and also heard them running in the hard snow but never saw them. Also went to another spot and heard coyotes 100yds away and didn't know they were that close but setup and called and they caught us off guard. We don;t know why they howl and we know they are there or coming but never see them. Wind is perfect and we are in cover. Any tips for people who have killed coyotes at night? Also has anyone ever had success during the day cause we thought about trying to get them during the day?

What are your tactics for day time? Like a general setup, call types, and how long do your sets last?

Were you able to see/scan downwind?

I've had them howling at me, but they would not break cover to go downwind.
I always set-up so they have to break cover to get downwind, and that I can see/shoot downwind.
If I have limited downwind coverage, I'll have a second guy set-up there.

We were actually locating where we heard the last pack and got caught off guard. So we sat in a fence row witha dirt field in front of us and a high grass field to the right.
