My Luck
« on: January 20, 2014, 10:05:21 PM »
So I was watching a video were a guy was making distress sounds with a mouth diaphragm.  Although it was specifically designed for coon and coyote distress I believe.  I was wondering if I could reproduce them or come close so I have been messing with an old turkey diaphragm all day.  I took the dogs out about 15 minutes ago and was just blowing away....All of a sudden I hear a fox barking on the ridge....closer...closer...closer...I catch it(red fox) in the white light and it ran up to my mailbox about 50 yards away and stopped.  It sat down and just barked.  I went inside and was watching it with the red light out the window it finally just stopped barking a couple minutes ago.  If it wasn't right next to the road he would be a dead fox.  Although it isn't dead it was still pretty cool to call in a fox.  Now I just have to worry about my birds.  Last year they got me for 20.

Had to be a fun experience to have one barking that close!

Well it sure wasn't scared of the beagles.  They had a den up on the same ridge last year and I ended up getting a big male, but it had the mange.

I was curious because I've had issues with my closed reeds freezing up and I just don't feel comfortable with open reeds.  I have a few open reeds, but I'm not consistent with the rabbit distress or other calls.  With the lack of success I've had I realized that when I first started I mainly used mouth calls and seemed to see more.
