different calls for reds and greys

Does anyone hunt greys different then they hunt reds? They are equally spread out around my area so I usually use grey fox distress after my rabbit. But I haven't called in any yet and I'm confused, last year I remember the red fox distress bringing them in runnin, but I never seen a grey. Now I see more greys spotting and if I go out thw next night I never see them. I thought a red would come in to a grey distress, but haven't been able to confirm that yet

When I call for fox it doesn't seem to matter what sounds I use. If they are there and hear my calls, the come running in. Haven't been able to get out since the first night, but am anxious to soon. There doesn't seem to be greys in my area much. Just reds and coyotes

grey fox will kill a red so they tend to shy away from grey fox sounds, they only reds i have ever called in to grey fox pup were big males.   i shy away from grey fox sounds if i know reds are in the area until the end of the set.

 Wow thanks Scott, I was told before that a red will kill a grey, that explains why I haven't called in a red lately because I've been using grey fox distress!

Stick with prey sounds then switch to volcalizations.

Ya I always start with mouse squeaks or baby cotton, then go to louder calls, always end my set with a distress fox as a last resort

Anyone ever use bird distress like woodpecker at night? Lots of people are getting into night hunting locally and everyone automatically chooses rabbits first, well the predators will be well educated before to long on rabbit sounds so Im hoping to find some new sounds

I used woodpecker on some game lands and called in 2 greys last year.  Haven't been out much this year yet though.  I have been calling behind my house since we have greys barking at my chickens all night long, but they wont come in.  I did have a duck come up missing this morning and I know for a fact he went into the pen last night.  Problem was though he was a wounded mallard I found and nursed back to health so he could fly quite well and in the mornings he flew out himself.  I am hoping this morning he decided to fly away,lol.
