First Time Frustrated Foxing :-)
« on: November 25, 2010, 11:52:11 AM »
Well I've only been at this about five years now and I am a non-competetitive type of hunter.  Never kept track of how many of anything I killed, how big, etc. just love living in the greatest country on earth where I can hunt and shoot.  However, I can honestly say I was frustrated fox hunting last night which was wierd as I never felt that way before and I am not sure what it means.   My fiance and I hit four spots.  The first two nothing except deer which was fun.  Third spot was a large farm on a hill.  We took turns calling for about ten minutes and spotted a red bouncing down the hill.  It hung up at about 60 yards which is further than I like to shoot...always try to get em in real close.  Started to change from the hand call to the back of my hand and it committed.  When it closed the distance to about thirty yards I took off the safety and my light went dark!  I got my tactical flashlight out and felt the wind change blowing right to the fox and instantly it was out of there.  Not sure if I was mad because of the light, not getting the fox, or the wind which was swirling all night.  Perhaps all three.  Hit one more spot and had a red at thirty yards but I didn't take the shot because of a housing development a few hundred yards behind the fox.   ???
