Who hunts coyote's in hard wood's....

I hunt by myself, and I hear coyote's all around me at night but have no real place to set up that has any visibility. The most I can see is about 40 yards. Do I try to call them in during the daylight hours or do I wait till nightfall....Icecube

try loggin roads,old back roads late at night,the roads you would call cow paths,just try to have permission on the properties there though.

coroners of these gas wells there putting in.

and creek bottoms in the daytime,setup high in a crosswind,and set your call in the bottom.

If you hunt by yourself and don't have any reasonable sized openings to hunt I would focus on hunting in the daytime.

Stick to the basics and don't over hunt your areas.

Hunt fields right at the base of mountains....hunt from ridges and call down into the lowlands...However DO NOT WALK THROUGH THE CALLING AREA TO GET TO THE RIDGE....

do you notice if critters come up or down a hill easier UB?

That depends if they are coming to the call....Will be coming up the hill.  Or if they are being shot at....That is when they are going down the hill real fast.....

I like the high spots...You can see for a long distance and you can get shots right at the base of the mountain...Now you want to  be on those ridges that are only about 75 to 100 yards from the base to the top.... As you know too...They will take the least resistance when the going gets tough... So choose your areas for your set up along the ridge.. In other words set the speaker or call along some rocks going down the mountain..Kind of easy access to the top.. you want the speaker facing down wind.. So you want the wind blowing down the mountain...Now you as the shooter can set on some rocks to the side. Since the coyotes will not be able to get in the downwind side of you due to the rocks. You will have a cross wind shot this way too....

A tree stand will help improve your veiw (mornings or late afternoons). Not sure if its feasable for you but...... If thats not an option then load up the shotgun and stay alert.

Has anyone ever used a tree stand to hunt predators and if so were the results good or bad.  Ive always hunted out of a tree for deer because of visibility and wondered if it would be worth it

I have not used tree stands for predators a whole lot, but never had bad results when I did.
Is it worth it........all depends on how you hunt I guess.

There is a guy (sleddog) that has been posting on PM for years that a tree stand is the best way to hunt coyotes in the east. He is from ME or NH (or somewhere up there) and says he uses stands that are either up year round or pre-placed stands.....so he is not carrying & setting one up at every stand.

I called in a 50 pound male coyote for my brother..He was in a tree stand down wind of my calling and he anchored it with one shot of # 4 buckshot....Yep tree stands work.....Remember how I stress how they work the call and get in the louder part of the call...No matter if it's electronics and or mouth calling...So place the call upwind of the tree stand but make sure your tree stand is in direct line with who ever is calling or make sure the speaker is pointing down wind toward where the person is in the tree stand. The tree stand should be abut 100 yards from the sound source.   Also be careful using other peoples tree stands...Some have been there for years and are no longer safe...Also if you put up one of the commercial tree stands, one of the climbing types...The hunt is already over....

If you slam the vehicle door, talk, or use one of those squeaky climbing deer stands every predator in the stand area will know that Man is in the woods for sure...Now if you put that tree stand up a day or two before you use it you would be better off.  Hopefully no one will steal it on you...

yep tree stands do work.  utlize the deer stands on a property.
