GAME COMMISSION RELEASES 2008-09 DEER HARVEST ESTIMATES

The Pennsylvania Game Commission today reported that hunters harvested an estimated 335,850 deer in the state's 2008-09 seasons.  That's up four percent from the previous seasons' harvest of 323,070.

Hunters took 122,410 antlered deer in the 2008-09 seasons, up from the previous license year's harvest of 109,200.  Also, hunters harvested 213,440 antlerless deer in 2008-09, which is almost the same as the 213,870 antlerless deer taken in 2007-08.

Thanks for the news Jeff, but with all the roadkills, and hunters not sending in the report cards these numbers are mere guesstimations.

Do they work in my area,no,

In the north were the deer where down to kittle or none,no again.

The WMU's are just too big to guesstimate.

Thanks for the news though.

the bad thing is the harvest reports. how many guys do you know yourself that either dont care-forget to turn in. I agree its a educated guess, but not accurate.

The title of thread says PGC estimate, so it is public knowledge that it is a guess.  The problem I have is that the PGC says the deer kill is similar to the 70's and 80's.  Anyone who was around during those times remembers the amount of shooting during the "bucks only" season.  It sounded like a war!  Now, both bucks and does are being hunted, and you rarely hear a shot.  Yet the statistics are the same. I pity the fools that believe the PGC stats, they probably bought into the Obama "change" BS too!
