Coyotes will respond to the Gray Fox Pup but most times hunters are set up close to the speaker when hunting gray fox and the coyote ends up busting them... This is the time of the year to use combo calls.. The Gray and Red fight or Gray and red Combo .. Or the Red Fox distress. See reds are mating no and they will come right to the speaker this time of the year when your doing fox distress sounds.. As you know the gray and the red fox are mortal enemies so you should never start off your calling with the gray fox distress sound.. Your best to use a food sound first...By the way the gray fox always wins the fight they are more aggressive ...Some of your best distress food sounds are baby cottontail, baby woodpecker, etc..If the wind picks up and they can't hear the sounds that's when I go to using Jack Rabbit Distress sounds... When your using a bird distress of any kind... Just let it rip too.. when birds are hurting they just keep crying out ....Get yourself a bulb squeaker to use.. You should start your calling with this and end it with this.. First 5 min and the last 5 min.. You can call in predator up to 500 yards away just using bulb squeaks. You should learn how to use an open reed call too.. They look like a SAXAPHONE MOUTH PIECE. They don't freeze up with your spit like a closed reed metal voice channel.. A good one for beginners to start off with is: The Primos Little Dog open reed call.. They come two to a pack.. Easier for some reason to use that call to talk the talk...
