Bigcat...they make a tool (Tail splitter guide) that you can slide into the tail once it is removed from the bone that helps split it straight.... it's a piece of metal, folded into a "V", tapered, and makes a real nice job out of splitting a tail that can be used on various critters...

so I don't know to much about this stuff
