Is anyone out there like me (gluten for punishment) carrying a rifle and a shotgun afield with them. I usualy always do and last night just took the shotgun (and set up for it) and of course needed the rilfe. lol

I kind of carry both. I use a savage model 24 .223/12ga. Combo gun. I usually hunt solo and like the option of both guns without carrying two guns.

Saw some comments in Fur Fish & Game that soldered Savage 24's barrels not as accurate as Savage 24 barrels attached with a bracket instead. Author recommended gunsmith removing bracket and bending shotgun barrel to get it in line where rifle barrel impact is. Then Reinstall bracket. I have a 24 V 223/12 killed a coyote and a gray fox with the shotgun barrel. Missed coyotes on a ridge to trying to get a Harris Bipod set right. I don't like it but use it for out of county over night away hunts.

Like Foxhound, I have an over/under Savage 223/12ga. "ABOUT" 1 or 1-1/2" groups at 100yds. 40 yards, cross hairs on top of foxes back will put fox in center of pattern...

I used to carry both but seemed to always end up using my shotgun.......so started just carrying one.
Now it seems that I'm always carrying the WRONG one.
Maybe I should go back to carrying both.

Scott I'm glad your liking the 24's!! if they feel good to you then they aren't bad.. I probably need to sleep with my 223/12 to like it better... The Mrs would like that....LOL

I got the 17/20 to hunt squirrels with the Feist but I ended up using it a bunch of times when we were just sitting for squirrels. the more I used it the better i liked it and got more comfortable with them. i have them all set up the same and they feel alike no matter which one i grab. my favorite is still the hornet/12. i am looking for a .17/12 if anyone has one let me know.
