I have always been an electronic call person because of how easy it is....just pick a sound, hit the play button, and wait. Wanting more of a challenge, I invested in quite a few Bee's O'Brian custom mouth calls. Yeah, I blew them around the house driving the dogs crazy, but i really wanted to test them and me on real critters. The problem was, I didn't want to call in critters pre-season and educate them for when it came time to put the hammer down on them.
I have a spot I archery hunt, but the land owner loves to watch the fox play around in his back yard, henceforth, he doesn't want them killed off. I figured what better place to do my mouth call practiceing.
The other night around 11:30, I took out my new glow in the dark fire flies. Within 2 minutes I had my first response. I called in a red to about 100 yards. After focused on him for a while, I realized I needed to be scanning more. When I went back to scanning, I saw 2 more red fox on the horizon. To make a long story short, while simply standing beside my truck AND using a white light, I had one fox come straight in to about 6 feet away from me!! I was with a friend and he literally jumped when the fox got that close because he thought it was going to attack him. Needless to say, he was impressed.....and so was I
