Favorite coyote Load??
« on: June 26, 2013, 05:52:59 PM »
I've been working on my 243 loads the last 2 months and have been shooting regulary at my local range....I've reloaded afew different  bullets, but settled into the Nosler 55 gr spitzer..its been a tacker for me...i got to shoot it up the mountains during turkey season and it leaves a vapor trail and accurate as heck...hav'nt shot the bullet out to 300 yards yet...but at 200 yards it's a rocket...I know it will problay tear fur up..but i'm thinking nogging shots if i can...Pred53

I love it when you find a good shooting combo.

Usually in doing a ladder test you will find a high and a low node of powder that will maximize accuracy.  I try to run my coyote bullets in my .243 at the lower velocity node.

My coyote load this year will be the Sierra 70grain MK with the starting load of Varget.  Hoping the smaller opening of the bullet and lower speed will work with pelts.  Looking forward to finding out.   ;)

Seeking  Coyotes,  Gust picked up 2 boxes of that 70 Gr Sierra @ Grices last wk.  We will load that bullet from the sierra and Nosler books and hope to get a tight load in the 3000 fps range.  Hope that the kid PM's you because you are right on the money w/that bullet.  Wanted to try. the 70 gr. Berger but couldn't find any.  Dick

I could only get mine down to 3,300 but I think 3,000 would be awesome.  I was to afraid of pressure issues so I stopped at the minimum charge.  I tried five different bullets and the 70 MK was king.  :-)  Shot a groundhog with it to try at 70 yards and it didn't pass through.   ;D

A good factory load for coyotes in the  22250 is that  40  round, 45 grain HP Winchester ammo! (White Box)  Don't use it on fox however because it places a howitzer size hole in the front chest... HA!  What I like you can get it cheap when Wal-Mart does have them on the rack... I have seen the same Win factory ammo in  223 too..

I also suggest that you don't shoot a coyote high with this 45 Grain WIN HP...Square in the chest or shoulder only... you hit it high on the back it's going to blow a big hole too...I just like the accuracy I get with it in the 22250 24 inch Encore barrel...Of all my encores the  22250 barrels has to be my favorite!!!!I like the shorter barrels to  24 inch or less in the rifle configuration.... 26 and 28 are OK.. but wow for even deer the shorter barrel works so nice walking through the brush when you have it slung on your back...

P53,  When I looked you up I saw your age.  Sorry about that.  If you get a copy of this issue of Varmint Hunter go to the members pictures.  Pg. 182-upper left is a 10 year old girl w/ a good sized dog that she shot w/the 55gr Ballistic Tip.  Look hard at the picture and observe the mess.  If you just want to kill coyotes that is an ok load.  If not stock up on needles and dental floss.  Dick
