For the close range hunting I have around my house I love the spitfire. And the small 1acre field I called these into, I had also called two coyotes into early this spring but missed. Has always done me good I just won't be able to go back right away. Real thick fur on this red, couldn't even find the bullet holes through the fur

Got it skinned last night and noticed my .17 hmr didn't even go the whole way through the fox. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing

As long as your end result is you walking out with fur then its a good thing.  Less damage makes for more money if your selling and better mounts if your mounting.  You just have to know your limitations with the gun.
"Predators are either active & feeding, semi-active & callable, or utterly inactive & then practically speaking, no call is needed; we're just taking our guns for a walk. We can & should get used to it, & follow their leed cuz they just ain't eager nor apt to follow our’s any time soon!

Good job on the red,I used an HMR for the first two years I predator hunted and was pleased with the performance of the caliber, the gun malfunctioned several times with critters in the crosshairs, otherwise I'd still have that gun

Yeah I end up using my 17hmr a lot because of the minimal fur damage. We have a 22-250 that we use, but under 100 yds it seems to blow the fox up a little too much. I found that as long as you shoot the fox in the neck or vitals with the 17 hmr you'll find a fox layed up right where you shot at it. Just be ready for some follow up shots from time to time. But cool fox, you don't see a lot with that dark of under bellies.
