BB copper plated lead
« on: January 05, 2012, 05:21:02 PM »
I know UB said something about this stuff a ways back, can't find it. Found at the local shop up here in potter, they got federal 3 inch 1 oz BB copper plated lead, box of 25 for about 45 bucks. Was this supposively good for coyotes over the #4 buck? Or were we talking that it was a great shot size for fox? All the fox i've seen hit with a scatter gun have been with lead turkey loads in 5 lead, put'm down pretty good but lots of shot. Anyone use this?

i use copper plated BB's for fox and coyote and it drops both of them.  during fox i will load with BB's then when fox go out i use 4B.   My son has been using Remingtons HD in #4 shot this year for fox and has killed them out to 50 yards.  imo the heavy shot hits harder than lead, #2 or BB Heavy shot would be deadly for coyotes.

The lead BB will work good on both fox and yote.  I would say 60 yard with a good choke.

Nickel plated hits harder yet....BB is good for red fox after their fur is prime. Grays.. they will most times come close to the speaker so # 4 turkey shot is fine..  Could be just plain lead for grays...

Hevishot....is the best of the lot... It hits hard and you can kill even a coyote with with # 4 shot Hevishot..

Deadcoyote now comes in HEVISHOT # 4 buckshot in 12 gauge and 10 gauge too.. Now that would be the best to use if your in a coyote contest.. As you know Deadcoyote can be had in T shot but if your going to pay the big bucks for it why not get # 4 buckshot.. Now I wouldn't use it for fox because it's $$$$$  Now if you know there is a coyote on a parcel of land you hunt on use the Deadcoyote.. Also if a fox comes in shoot with that too.. Unless you have a single shot or side by side that you can just remove the Deadcoyote and insert the BB or the # 4 shot...

Deadcoyote cost about $38.00 for a box of  10... However used when you really need to make your shot count like in a coyote contest for $$$$$ it will last you for years....

Bismuth comes in BB in 12 and 10 gauge too and that's great.. You use the same chokes as lead for that... That's expensive too...

Remington HD is also a good hevishot too.. You can get this in BB too.. But it's also $$$$$$.

Midwayusa is a good place to get all this kind of ammo...

By the way  Fiocchi Ammunition    Makes all kinds of shotgun ammo  in Nickel shot... Now that probably would be a good commercial fox load..

Ah Nickel Plated Shot too!  www.ballisticproducts.com
Ballistic Products also sell factory Nickel ammo too...

When you buy shotgun reloading components from BP.. Make sure you tell them you want all the free pamphlets for that particular product.. In other words if you buy certain components they will give you reloading data on that item if it's used in a reload.. Nice that you can even buy buffer for your shotgun shells from them too...Check out the #  "F" Buckshot  shot in Nickel Plated too for predators.. That is a size that would be good for all predators but you can't get it in factory rounds..

Consider the 10 gauge too... You can get a MEC  10 gauge 600 shotgun press and load all kinds of buckshot for 10 gauge... Things you could never buy on the store shelf..
