Corn Stubble

Corn Stubble  quite hard to see an incoming fox when you hunt fields with corn stubble in it... Try to get the high ground so you can see down into this instead of making your stand at eye level with stubble corn.. Or set up and take your shots and call them out of the stubble into a leveled field.

I remember a few times you figure cut corn...You get out of the vehicle and take your rifle with you.. Then you can't see anything for the 1 to 2 foot of corn stubble sicking up...I'd go back to the vehicle get the shotgun.. Set up along the edge of the cut corn stubble and tree line.. Have the fox come along the edge.  Remember how they get in line with the loudest part of the speaker.. aim the speaker down the side of the tree line and post 20 yards outside in the corn stubble...and a good 75 to 100 yards down wind of the speaker...Make them work the speaker and come out of the corn stubble. They will run along the edge of the tree line and you pop them one as they pass you or when they are in shotgun range..

Winter trying to cross corn stubble with boots can near trip you too... Be careful and while crossing corn stubble fields with other hunters..

Corn Stubble... Seek high groung is using the rifle and or use the shotgun along the edge for best results.. Can't shoot what you can't see...

Also when hunting in corn stubble.. This is not the time to sit down and use a Harris Bi pod..Figure stubble sticking up 1 to 2 feet and you think your going to see an incoming fox when using a Harris bi pod?? While your using a mouth call yet... Wow one needs to be standing using and outstanding rifle rest for sure when hunting with a scoped rifle in stubble corn... Again even with the standing rifle rest always take the high ground...

Do you take a tree stand to each corn field you hunt or do you only hunt one spot.
For a brief moment I could hear nature through all the noise.

I scout the area and know if I will need it for a night hunt... I try to hunt a stubble field in the day... Most of my hunting is in the suburbs/woodlots of Pgh...
Heck the 2 yotes I harvested this year were by luck... lol... 1st I spotted it and went back the following day an hour earlier and called it into 25yards before sending #4  3 1/2 into the ribcage...
2nd was in early muzzy season and right before dark no deer so I did a quick call and 3 came in , in less than 2minutes after the call... Lucky for the other 2 I was limited to a single shot...
Both yote were taken in a old baseball field within 20minutes of downtown Pittsburgh...

Thanks for the reply, glad to see you are having a good season. I like the fact you said luck, most of the stuff I kill is luck. LOL
Well you at least still have the skill to finish the job when luck presents it self. The sign of a good hunter!!

I know it was luck, twice,lol...
I had a cousin that used to beg me to go yote hunting and I never new much about it... I met Uncle Buck on another site and started to learn a lil,in the mean time my cousin and his girlfriend get into a battle and my cousin ended up putting a .45 to his head, and I blamed myself for not ever taking him... I try to learn, but I realize, it all came down to luck, hunting them this close to civilization...  They are a majestic animal that needs the utt most respect...
