gave it a go tonight, bad luck...
« on: October 19, 2010, 09:35:28 PM »
little to no wind, cool, i figured it would be a good night (maybe a bit too much moon though)... i planned on making as many stands as i could tonight but like usual, something always blows it for me... first stand right at dusk behind my uncle's place yielded nothing but callin practice, so i decided to go check out my next spot on the list and my uncle and his daughter asked to come along... they said they might only hit a few spots with me and that was fine with me so i decided to hit a few of the larger spots that i wanted to call since i had the extra eyes and guns to help... i had a new light setup to try out to, i bought a 10 dollar camera tripod, modified the base and mounted my coleman 1,000,000 candlepower portable spotlight to it... seemed like a good idea for when i'm flyin solo... tripod acts like the third arm that i wished i always had, hehe

we get settled into the second stand and i wait my usual ten minutes or so, and then i lead off with some rabbit in distress, quiet at first, no reaction... give it a few minutes and start back up again, but louder this time... nothing... this goes on for about 35 minutes, randomly heard a few barks in that time but wrote them off to a dog on a nearby farm.... so before i decided it was time to go i let a hurt puppy go, immediately followed by a couple of barks and a howl from the locator... just to see if i could get a response, and it worked... i had my uncle watching our backdoor with the shotgun on the tree line while my cousin and i were setup just off the tree line about 20 feet in some heavier grass just inside the shadows... as soon as the howl was done i heard him comin through the woods so i turned as slowly as i could and pivoted the light with me so as to light him up for my uncle, no sooner did i see the eyes and THE BLASTED LIGHT GOES OUT... no shot, uncle says he didn't have near enough time to get on him with the second or two of light he had before it crapped the bed... i dunno what the problem is yet as i am too disgusted to even think about lookin at it... might be a bulb, i know its not the battery.. that battery usually lasts all night...

gotta get it square before friday night though, that i know for sure...

A few years back, I had the same thing happen with my light. I had four dogs coming to me and my light went out. Not a good feeling. Hopefully, you will have it worked out by this weekend.
