Turkey Hunting Saturday Morning
« on: May 13, 2012, 01:19:16 AM »
Well I went turkey hunting Saturday morning.  I got to the farm by 515.  As I was gathering up my tools of the trade what did my ears hear.  But a pack of coyotes howling pretty near.  So I quick grabbed the back stabber from the truck.  I high tailed it down around the pond and put out my turkey decoys, as the toms were gobbling as well.  I sat mu butt down against a large oak and started calling for the turkeys for a few minutes to kinda of settle thngs down.  I waited a few minutes then hit the back stabber loud and proud.  Listening to the gobblers scream over the the calling got my blood flowing.  Now mind you I'm sitting with the pond to my right and an open field the the left.  As I sat there watching, I noticed the barn cats back towards the house about 200yds away, scatter.  A minute or so later at the far end of the pond I caught movement.  Here comes a pair of coyotes.  I waited until the lead one got behind a tree for me to swing the gun around and get up on one knee.  It didn't see me right away but as the I shouldered the Mossberg 835 it spotted me.  The first shot went passed its tail as it turned on the after burner.  I held the second shot until it was in an opening.  The second shot hit  the back end.  And the coyote went subsonic.  After looking for an hour on my own.  I had to call in back up trackers.  We searched for about 2hrs with no luck.
