Is a 17hmr enough to take down a coyote?
-
Used one for many years on fox.Wouldn't use it for coyotes.

Thanks, what is a good caliber to use
-
I killed one this year with a 17 hornet...BUT I took a head shot and it was only about 80 yards away. The most popular coyote clibes are .223, .204 Ruger, and the 22-250. My personal choice is a .204 Ruger then the 22-250.
I'm sure you'll get various opinions.

Did any ammo mfg ever come out with heavier grain bullets??? IMO probably be ok for gray fox real close shots.. now red fox your starting to get shots past the 100 yard mark.. I do well when I do use a 22 WMR on reds out to 100 yards with 45 grain bullets for the 22 WMR..
