I use mod in my mossberg 500
anything tighter than that, id use a rifle
Better to pattern YOUR shotgun and see what its doing

Highly recommend patterning your gun.
My 870 patterns #4 best with I/C. My nephews 870 patterns #4 best with full.

My 870 with Hevishot patterns best with extra full.  ???

I shoot a kicks high flyer extra full out of a 3 1/2 870...patterns very well out to 50yds will put 8-10 pellets of dead coyote in a pie plate at 50 yds
