Title: 22 ammunition
Post by: foxtrot on July 28, 2009, 10:30:31 PM
Just wondering what 22 ammunition is best suited for dispatching raccoons caught in traps?

I have used shorts with fairly good results but still get an exit hole if the shot isn't placed just right. Is there such a thing as a short hollow point or something low velocity with a lot of expansion?

I dispatch them the same as I do a fox. Tap and stand. The biggest reason I do that is because most of my coon are caught in a fox or coyote set and I don't want the gun shot residue at the set. The only thing I shoot is a coyote.

22 long hollow points. I try to hit them right behind the front leg with the first shot. If that doesn't make it drop the next one is in the head.

If the coon isnt in a drowning set he gets a 22 Cb to the head.  Foxes and Coyotes get the womp and stomp and I kneel on em while I remake set. Coyote gets a lot harder womp than the foxes.  Skunks get a lethal injection because I save the essence and dont want em to spray.
